Vitamin D hunt.....

I was on a mission to get my Vitamin D 1600 IU supply yesterday. I wanted to get it asap as I am suppose to do the Vitamin D test again after 2 weeks of medication. I went to Watson, Guardian and a pharmacy in search for the Vitamin. Luck was not on my side. There was no Vitamin D in those stores.

I called my nurse and asked her where can I get the supply. To my surprise, the nurse told me that I only can get at GMC stores. Since I am from Pahang, I have to search the internet for the nearby counters. I called GMC in Jusco Kepong to inquire about the vitamin. I was told that they had Vitamin D 400 iu only. I then called my nurse again what should I do. She told me that was the Vitamin and I should take 4 of it per day. (4 x 400 IU = 1600 IU). Oh, that means, altogether I have to take 7 tablets a day. Folic Acid, Multivitamin, Fish Oil and 4 Vitamin D tablet. I am willing to take as much Vitamins as long as I have a miracle bump soon.

I manage to go to Kepong and get the Vitamin. It had 100 tablets in a bottle and it costs RM32.90. They gave a 20% discount. Yay! That was excellent. I had to pay only RM26.30. That was quite a deal. So, I started my Vitamin D intake as soon as I bought the medicine. My sister was shocked and asked me why are you in such a hurry? Hehe. I do not want to waste even a day. Every single day counts!

Unexpected Call

I just received a call from KL Fertility as I was blogging. The nurse told me that they got my Vitamin D and Insulin test results. She told me that Dr. had asked me to take Vitamin D supplements daily. It must be that I am lacking Vitamin D in my body. My Insulin result was OK.

Today's task to hunt if I can get this Vitamin D supplement today. Else will start to consume tomorrow. The nurse also told me that I will need to test my Vitamin D test again after 2 weeks of Vitamin D intake.

So now I have to take 4 tablets each day including Folic Acid, multivitamin, fish oil and the new addition Vitamin D. Pheww....hopefully that will be it.

KLFGC - Visit No. 2

I and my husband went in for my Day 12 checkup 2 days ago. I had to fast for my blood test. We reached the hospital at 9am. Around 9.15am, Nurse M called me in to draw my blood. One test was for Insulin and Vitamin D test. The other blood test was to check for my miscarriage cause. We were told the results for this test was only to be seen after 1 month. WOW. We asked the nurse why does it take so long. They told us that this blood samples need to be sent to Australia to be tested. That was new for us. Now we know why this test is rather expensive.

We went in to see Dr. Helena around 9.25am. She had my hormone test results with her. She said my results were good. Pheww....that was a relief. The only thing is that by right FSH count should be more than LH count. I had LH count slightly more than FSH count by 0.1 only. That explained my mild PCOS. Dr. said it was nothing to worry and it was good.

Dr. Helena did a vaginal scan to check my follicles. There was a follicle sized 1.4mm. She said I should be ovulating coming weekend. She asked us to try on our own this weekend. If my period comes next month, we will be starting IUI treatment. Dr. advised us to come in on Day 2 of my next period. We were given the copy of our result.

Total expenses :- RM 1430

Fasting Insulin Test      - RM 150
Vitamin D Test            - RM 300
Miscarriage Blood Test  - RM 820
Scanning/Ultrasound     - RM   80
Consultation                - RM  80

p/s - That's quite a sum for tests but we were OK as long as we get treated and we get to know the cause for the miscarriages. Feeling good about the upcoming treatments :). Positive feelings.

KL Fertility & Gynaecology Centre - Visit No. 1

After 2 years plus of trying and 1 year of treatment, we decided to look for another hospital for help. I started to do my research through the internet. After many many blog readings, we decided to go for Dr. Prashant Nadkarni of KL Fertility & Gynaecology Centre (KLFGC).

I was excited to start the new treatment with Dr.Prashant as there were many positive comments in the blogs. I was waiting for my period to come and it arrived on 8 Dec 2012. I called the hospital for an appointment. I was disappointed as the nurse told me that Dr. Prashant will not be in till 14 Dec 2012. That would be too late for me as I would miss the Day 2-4. So I only had 2 options. Either I miss this month or I go for Dr. Helena Lim Yun Hsuen. I decided to go for Dr. Helena as I do not want to delay any longer. I was asked to come in on 10 Dec 2012 at 2.30 pm.

On Monday, I and my husband reached the hospital at 1.20 pm. Oh ya, I forgot to mention that we need 1 hour 30 min  to 2 hours to reach the hospital(depending on the traffic) as we are from Pahang. So, we decided to have our lunch and then we went to the hospital. I was asked to fill up a form. There were many couple in the hospital of all races and cultures.

We were called in around 2.55 pm by Nurse M. Dr. Helena greeted us at the door. Never had a Dr. do that before. That was a good start. She  was very warm and cheerful. She did apologize for the wait as Dr. Prashant was not around and she had to take care of his patients too. Nurse M was in the room as well throughout the consultation.

I then told Dr. Helena my medical history. I did give her my laproscopy result and my husband's SA. She said my cyst was a normal one and my husband's analysis is good. The standard for morphology recently changed and anything above 4% morphology is good (My husband's was 5%). That was a good news. Since it was my Day 3 of period, Dr. Helena did a vaginal scan. She immediately knew that I was a mild PCOS patient. I had 8 follicles on one side and 12 follicles on the other. Dr advised me to continue my Folic Acid and to add Wyeth Centrum Multivitamin and fish oil capsules to strengthen my uterus.

Lastly she asked me to do a blood test the same day to check my hormone levels. Besides that, since I had 2 miscarriages, I was asked to do another blood test the next visit and also Vitamin D and insulin test. For the next blood test, I was asked to come in fasting. The next appointment for us was on 19/12/2012 which is Day 12.

Total expenses for the below :- RM470

Consultation
Scanning/Ultrasound
Blood Test

p.s - On the way back we did get the multivitamin and also the fish oil capsules. We decided to continue the treatment with Dr. Helena as she understood us well, was very clear in her explanation and most importantly we felt comfortable with her.

My jOuRnEy sO fAr....

I and my husband are ttc for 2 years and 3 months now. I was shocked to hear the question if I was pregnant  just couple of months after our wedding. Since then, we had been hearing that question many times. We wish we would be blessed with a baby soon.

I decided to start blogging after I read many bloggers about their journey for a baby. It was helpful for me to read their blog and I hope that my journey may help some others who are in the same boat. Below are my journey till October 2012.

Sep 2010 - I got married to a wonderful and understanding husband.
Dec  2010 - I got pregnant.

Jan  2011  - Had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. Our baby did not have a heart beat. I had tears automatically when the doctor told me the news. It was a heart breaking news :-(

Jan 2011     - Had a D & C done.

Mar  - Aug 2011 - Tried naturally to conceive but no positive results.

October 2011 - Got pregnant.

Nov 2011 - Miscarried at 5 weeks :-( . I did not go through a D & C as it was a very early stage and there was only a sac.

Dec 2011 - Mar 2012 - Tried with the help of Clomid but no good news.

April 2012 - Husband had a Sperm Analysis (SA) done. He had a 5 % morphology. During that time, their standard should be more than 30 %.
